NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A Portsmouth woman was sentenced Thursday for her part in the murder of a man whose body was found burning in York County last year.
Amanda Howie with the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said Kasey Rubio, 19, will serve 25 years and 8 months in prison for the murder of 56-year-old Austin King of Virginia Beach.
King’s body was found burning in a Mac Tools truck off Interstate 64 March 22, 2013. He delivered Mac Tools, but coworkers told WAVY.com his route did not extend up to York County. Investigators believe he was murdered on Nevada Avenue in Norfolk prior to being discovered on the Peninsula.
Rubio and co-defendant Hassan Harvey, 34, of Norfolk were arrested days later. The two were listed as owners of Top Dead Center, an auto repair and service center on Nevada Avenue at the time of their arrest.
Rubio pleaded guilty in November to first degree murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit arson, and grand larceny in relation to King’s death.
Harvey was convicted of the same charges and a jury recommended he spend two life sentences and forty years in jail for the convictions.
