Man rescued from cruise ship off NC coast

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A 42-year-old man was medevaced from a cruise ship about 25 miles east of Cape Lookout, N.C. Wednesday.

The Coast Guard said the captain of the 950-foot cruise ship Carnival Splendor call for help around 6 p.m., stating that a crewmember was in medical distress. A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City to assist.

The crew arrived at the cruise ship around 8 p.m., and hoisted the man into the helicopter and took him to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.

The man was reported to be in stable condition, according to the Coast Guard.
