Crews hit gas main near school

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A gas main was struck near a Portsmouth school Thursday morning.

Battalion Chief Jim Hoffler with the Portsmouth Fire Department told WAVY.com the 6-inch gas main was struck along Cedar Lane near Sweethaven Christian Academy as well as KinderCare Kindergarten and Churchland House around 8:30 a.m.

The gas was shut off around 11:30 a.m. No evacuations were made and no problems were reported inside the buildings.

Traffic was impacted for some time in the area of Route 164 and West Norfolk Road.
