CG medevacs man from cruise ship


PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A 35-year-old man was medevaced from a cruise ship off the coast of Nags Head Tuesday.

The Coast Guard said crews were dispatched to the 965-foot cruise ship Norwegian Gem about 180 miles off the coast of Nags Head just before 2:30 p.m. for a report of a man in medical distress. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and an HC-130 Hercules were launched from Coast Guard Station Elizabeth City.

Crews hoisted the man around 5 p.m. and took him back to the air station where he was transported by ambulance to Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City.

The man was listed in stable condition.
