Driver charged in barber shop crash

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – A vehicle crashed into a barber shop in Hampton Tuesday morning and now the driver is facing charges.

Sgt. Jason Price with the Hampton Police Division told WAVY.com the crash occurred in the 800 block of Mercury Boulevard around 8:30 a.m. Injuries were reported.

Pictures from the scene showed a Chevy Blazer entirely in the building. Police say the driver was extricated and sent to the hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

The driver, 25-year-old Gracielle Garnett, was charged with reckless driving. The investigation determined she was parked outside Kingdom Kids Child Care when she accelerated, lost control and slammed into the First Class Barber Salon, Sgt. Price said.

No one else was in the vehicle and no one was inside the building at the time of the crash.
