NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A city councilman has asked for more information about a city patrol boat that overturned at the Willoughby Marina Friday afternoon.

City spokeswoman Lori Crouch confirmed to that Councilman Andy Protogyrou requested the accident report for the incident which injured three Norfolk officers and two civilians.

The preliminary investigation revealed the crews were testing the Marine Patrol Unit’s motor when it overturned, but police have not said what caused the boat to capsize.

Protogyrou told 10 On Your Side the mishap is significant and he wants to make sure it never happens again.

“Ultimately, we need to know what lesson did we learn?” he said. “How do we make sure our personnel don’t get injured again? What was the cause? If it was mechanical, then where do we turn for reimbursement of our city assets?”

City and police say the Virginia Marine Police are investigating the incident, and so far, no report has been received.
