HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – The Hampton Police Division has taken a suspect into custody after a long standoff along Walnut Street.

Sgt. Jason Price with the Hampton Police Division said officers were called to the 400 block of Walnut Street Sunday around 11 p.m. for a possible domestic incident. There, they came in contact with a woman in the home who refused to open the door or come out to speak with officers.

Around 1 a.m., the SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams were dispatched to the scene, where they remained for several hours.

Officials believed two juveniles were in the home as well as two adults. Around 8 a.m., police said two juveniles and one adult made it out of the home. They were waiting for the other adult, identified as Jimmy James Prince, 27, of Hampton to exit voluntarily.

Prince was wanted on charges related to a previous domestic-related case.

Just before 10 a.m., police deployed gas into the home and found Prince in the attic, Price said. He was taken into custody.

Students living in the 400 block of Walnut street were asked to go to Pinegrove and Walnut to be picked up by school buses while officers were on scene.
