Family pet died in Virginia Beach house fire

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Fire crews were called to battle a reported kitchen fire Monday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived at the home, near the intersection of Battle Creek Court and Ann Arbor Lane, shortly after noon.

According to fire department spokeswoman Amy Valdez, there is significant damage to both floors of the single-family home.

No one was home when the fire broke out, but the family’s pet dog died in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
