Portsmouth Police find man with gunshot wounds

PORTSMOUTH, Va.  (WAVY) – Police are investigating a shooting after finding a man with gunshot wounds in Portsmouth Sunday.

Detective Misty Holley with the Portsmouth Police Department said the shooting happened on High Street near Virginia Avenue around 2:13 p.m. Police received multiple calls requesting help for a man who had been shot in the area.

Officers arrived on the scene and found a 24-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the upper torso, Holley said. The victim was taken to Sentara Norfolk GeneralHospital, where he underwent surgery. Police said the extent of the victim’s injuries is unknown, but he is expected to survive.

Investigators do not have any suspect information at this time.
