VB Police investigate attempted rape

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Police are investigating an attempted rape after a woman was attacked in Virginia Beach early Saturday.

According to Tonya Borman with the Virginia Beach Police Department, a woman told police she was walking toward an apartment in the 4100 block of Cornwallis Drive, which is the Thalia Gardens neighborhood, when she heard footsteps. The woman said she was tackled, and fought back.

Borman said the suspect gave up, and fled in the direction of Bonney Road. He is described as a 25 to 30-year-old man, 5’9 to 5’10″ tall, with a medium build, wearing a black hoodie and jeans.

WAVY News 10’s Liz Palka spoke to neighbors on Saturday about the attack. Many said they hadn’t heard of the incident, and said it made them nervous to be out alone.

Christian Richardson was walking his dog in the Thalia Gardens neighborhood Saturday evening.

“I was shocked, mostly, and more scared that people could do that,” said Richardson. “Especially so close.”
