NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Residents are able to return to their homes after a “suspicious device” investigation Saturday in the area of Barre Street in Norfolk.

Karen Parker-Chesson with the Norfolk Police Department said police got a call about an explosive device around 6:04 p.m. Parker-Chesson said the device looked like a white PVC pipe positioned on the train tracks.

Investigators said the object appeared to be a railroad apparatus, and it was not explosive.

Ten to 20 homes near the train tracks were evacuated as a precaution, but residents were able to return to their homes around 7:45 p.m.
