VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – City officials have secured multi-year contract with the Junior Sports Association, Inc. to bring basketball competitions to the Beach.

More than 60 basketball teams will participate in the tournaments each year over the next three years, with the first taking place April 17 through April 20 with the 2014 JSA Central East Coast Showdown at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

JSA organizes and promotes youth basketball with a mission to provide an opportunity for teams to compete in competitions.

“We are thrilled to be hosting the Junior Sports Association in 2014 and we see potential for this event to grow exponentially in Virginia Beach over the contract period,” Sports Marketing Director Nancy Helman said. “Our world-class convention center, plus all the amenities our city has to offer, makes this agreement a perfect fit for JSA and for Virginia Beach.”

The tournaments will also bring more than 1,200 participants and generate 1,000 room nights in Virginia Beach.
