NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Lake Taylor high school held a pep rally for the girls basketball team which won the 4A state championship last week by defeating William Fleming 57-50.
It’s the third time coach Saundra Sawyer has led her team to the state championship.
“I though it would have kicked in by now,” Sawyer told the Sportswrap.
“Right now I feel great, tomorrow, I’ll probably feel even better.”
Senior Endia McKinney was one the reasons Lake Taylor won the championship, and she said nothing beats going out on top.
“Like coach said, it hasn’t really kicked in yet,” McKinney said. “I feel like once I get my ring, it will hit me. I feel great just thinking about it everday, ‘I’m a two-time state champ,’ it’s a great feeling.”
