Portsmouth Police need help locating burglary suspect

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Portsmouth Police is asking for the public’s help locating a burglary suspect.

Detectives say 46-year-old William E. Proffitt, Jr. kicked in the door of a home in the 10 block of Woodland Street on March 10 and took jewelry and cash. Several days later, detectives located the stolen jewelry at two local pawn shops.

Proffitt is wanted by police for charges of burglary, grand larceny, larceny with the intent to sell, destruction of property and obtaining money by false pretenses.

Proffitt has been known to reside in the 10 block of Emmons Place and the 500 block of Beacon Road in Portsmouth, as well as the 4600 block of Peek Trail in Chesapeake. He is described as a white male, approximately 5’11” tall and weighing 175 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.
