PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Roads in Portsmouth were blocked to traffic Thursday afternoon after a fire at Majik City.
Battalion Chief Jim Hoffler with Portsmouth Fire-Rescue said firefighters were called to the location on Portsmouth Boulevard near Turnpike Road around 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Hoffler said they believe the fire started in the back of the building, and crews got the flames under control in about 15 minutes.
Employees inside Majik City discovered the fire, according to Hoffler, and customers and workers were able to get out safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire officials said it does not appear to be suspicious. Hoffler told WAVY.com a lot of what was inside the building was damaged by smoke and heat. Majik City is currently closed, but investigators said the building is structurally sound.
Part of Portsmouth and Airline boulevards were closed to traffic to allow crews to access a fire hydrant, but since reopened.
