NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A new cruise will sail out of Norfolk beginning in 2015.
The City of Norfolk announced Thursday the Carnival Splendor will sail from Half Moone Cruise & Celebration Center. Itineraries include Bermuda, Bahamas and a Cruise to Nowhere.
“We’re delighted to welcome one of Carnival’s newest and largest ships to Norfolk,” said Norfolk Mayor Paul Fraim. “The Splendor’s presence on our waterfront demonstrates Carnival’s confidence in Cruise Virginia and the outstanding service Norfolk has to offer Carnival’s passengers and crew.”
City officials said the 952-foot, 3,000 passenger cruise ship will be the newest and largest to sail from Half Moone. Additionally, there will be more than 20 cruise ship stopovers in Norfolk through 2015.
“We will continue to grow the business at Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center,” said Stephen Kirkland, National Maritime Center Director. “Whether increasing the number of cruise seasonal homeport and stop-over calls or growing the event rental business, I am committed to looking for unique opportunities to attract residents and visitors to Norfolk’s beautiful waterfront.”
