NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A 20-year-old man is facing charges after police say he threatened to blow up a Newport News business after being fired.
Police were called to a business on Hornsby Lane around 1:40 p.m. on March 16 to investigate a report of a threat.
Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department said the suspect, 20-year-old Austyn Brent Challis, was terminated from his position at the business and told to leave the property. Police said Challis became disorderly in front of customers, and made threats to the manager, and threatened to blow up the business.
Challis went back to the business around 1:30 p.m. and once again became disorderly and threatened the manager, according to Thurston.
Challis was charged with threatening to bomb, disorderly conduct and trespassing.
