NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – It almost seemed like two different teams showed up in each half, but the Old Dominion University men’s basketball team is moving on after a 72-65 win over South Dakota State in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational on Wednesday.

Dimitri Batten lead the way with 18 points, and four made 3-pointers.

The Monarchs lead by as many as 20 points in the first half, shooting 59 percent in the process. Suddenly, that lead evaporated, and ODU trailed by one midway through the second half.

A Richard Ross dunk broke a 58-58 tie game, and a made Batten 3-pointer with his team down 63-62 proved too much for the Jack Rabbits to overcome. With the win, the Monarchs even out their record at 19-19.
