PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The Coast Guard medevaced a 66-year-old man from a cruise ship Tuesday night for a medical emergency.
Crews on the 950-foot Carnival Splendor notified watchstanders around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday of a man in medical distress. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City to help.
The crew arrived on scene around 1:30 a.m. about 50 miles east of Wilmington and hoisted the man. He was then taken to Wilmington International Airport where he was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
