NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — New homes and businesses could be coming to Ocean View.
Norfolk City Council approved the plan for a development to go up in a vacant lot on East Ocean View Avenue near Chesapeake Boulevard. It will house a new gated apartment community and create 20,000 square feet of retail space.
Residents in the area are excited about the new addition and what it could mean for their neighborhood.
“We desperately need good retail. We desperately need a couple of really good restaurants to draw some people into the area, and there are a couple of things that would be just nice to have,” said Nate Apatov, president of the Greater Pinewell Civil League. “It would be nice to have a little coffee shop that neighbors could have coffee at in the morning.”
The $40-million development could bring about $450,000 of additional tax revenue to the city.
The City Planning Department still has to approve the proposal.
If approved, City Council says the development could take about six months to build.
