Man indicted in fatal I-64 crash

Fatal crash indictment

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man was indicted Monday afternoon in the case of a deadly crash last year in Virginia Beach.

According to Macie Pridgen with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, 30-year-old Neil William Lyness was indicted on two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter and a third or subsequent offense of driving with a revoked license.

The charges stem from a crash on Interstate 64 near Indian River Road on September 25. Sandra Amaya and her daughter, Sophia Lopez, were killed in the crash.

Lyness will be back in court later this week for an attorney appointment hearing. His trial date will be set after that.
