VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Construction beginning this week may cause some extra traffic on parts of Lynnhaven Parkway, but officials say the end result will do the opposite.
The Virginia Department of Transportation announced work will begin on the widening of Lynnhaven Parkway to four lanes from Indian River Road to Centerville Turnpike. During construction, traffic will be down to one lane in each direction.
“American Infrastructure was awarded the $18.9 million construction contract to add an additional lane in each direction and a bridge at the canal located between Centerville Turnpike and Indian River Road to create a connection between the cities of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach,” said Jennifer Gwaltney with VDOT.
The project is scheduled to be complete in fall 2016.
