Grand jury indicts three in deadly shooting

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach grand jury indicted three men in the shooting death of Jamel Alexander Knight on Monday.

Investigators say 24-year-old Knight was attending an event at a residence on Coach Drive  in the Lake Edwards area on October 11, 2013. Police say he went outside around 11 p.m. and was approached by two suspects, one of whom took out a gun and shot and killed Knight.

According to Macie Pridgen with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, the following suspects were indicted on the following charges in relation to Knight’s death:

  • Anthony Mark Hill, 19, of the 4900 block of Grazing Court in Virginia Beach, for charges of 1st degree murder, use of a firearm, and conspiracy
  • Tramon Laquan Lane, 21, of the 1000 block of Olds Lane in Virginia Beach, for charges of 1st degree murder, 1st degree murder (attempt), use of a firearm (2 counts), and conspiracy
  • Hakeem Kwame Smith, 18, of the 500 block of Perry Shores Court in Virginia Beach, for charges of 1st degree murder, use of a firearm, and conspiracy

Trial dates have not yet been scheduled for the suspects.
