HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – Attorney General Mark Herring visited Hampton Roads Monday as part of a public safety tour across the Commonwealth.
Herring first stopped in Portsmouth to speak to the Department of Criminal Justice Services’ Campus Safety and Violence Prevention Forum at the Renaissance Hotel. From there, he went on to attend the Portsmouth Public Safety Meeting.
Around noon, Herring spoke at the Hampton Roads Kick Off of the 8th Annual Statewide Legal Food Frenzy in Norfolk at the Tidewater Food Bank. Then he attended the Norfolk Public Safety Meeting.
Since taking office in January, Herring has received national attention for his announcement that he wouldn’t defend Virginia’s same-sex marriage ban in federal lawsuits. A Norfolk federal judge later struck the ban down as unconstitutional.
