CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A man is accused of shooting and killing his nephew early Saturday morning, according to Chesapeake Police.
Officer Ravi Sheth with the Chesapeake Police Department said officers responded to a domestic situation that had escalated to shots fired in the 1000 block of Chattanooga Street at 4:30 a.m.
Sheth said 24-year-old Justin Waddell was shot and pronounced dead on the scene.
The suspect, 50-year-old Roger Carpenter, was on the scene when police arrived, and was taken into custody. Carpenter was charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
Sheth said Waddell is Carpenter’s nephew.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation.
