Subject of Chesapeake Police pursuit gets away

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake officers lost track of the subject of a police pursuit through the South Norfolk area Friday night.

Around 5:30 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Shady Lane and Timber Lane on a vehicle with numerous equipment violations, said Ravi Sheth with the Chesapeake Police Department. As officers approached the vehicle, it sped away.

Officers pursued the Lexus until it struck a fence on Mayon Drive around 5:45 p.m. Despite a foot pursuit, the driver escaped officers and K-9 units by getting a ride from another vehicle, Sheth said.

When police searched the Lexus, they found various forms of narcotics and a handgun. Charges are pending against the driver, whose identity has not been released.

No one was injured.
