Overnight fire damages vacant home

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk Fire-Rescue personnel were called to a working house fire in the 1200 block of East Balview Avenue around 12:16 Thursday morning.

When units arrived on scene at 12:21 a.m. they found heavy smoke and flames coming from a two-story house.

According to Battalion Chief Julian Williamson, the fire was declared under control around 1:20 a.m., about an hour after firefighters arrived.

The house received heavy smoke and fire damage and the Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine the cause of the fire.

According to witnesses, the home, located in the Ocean View section of the city, was vacant at the time of the fire.

There were no injuries reported with this fire.
