Man pleads guilty to gang-related charges

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A 25-year-old man entered a guilty plea Wednesday on charges connected to four homicides between 2009 and 2010.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Kevin L. Ashby of Newport News pled guilty to participating in a racketeering conspiracy and violence in aid of racketeering including murder. Ashby was indicted by a federal grand jury last July.

According to court documents, Ashby was part of the gang known in the city as “Thug Relations.” The gang is also known as “The Duct,” “Warwick Lawnz,” “TR” and “from the Duct to the Lawnz.” It operates in the Aqueduct Apartments, St. Michael’s Apartments, Mariner’s Landing Apartments, Heritage Trace Apartments and in the Warwick Lawns, Warwick Town Home, Sharon Drive and Savage Drive areas of the city.

The indictment listed the murders of Andre Horton and Andre Julius Johnson on May 17, 2009, Lafayette Bailey on Dec. 15, 2009 and Lloyd Robinson on Jan. 8, 2010.

Ashby is scheduled to be sentenced on June 26.
