Hampton Police tracking crime on internet

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — With the click of a mouse, Hampton residents can find out about crime in Hampton.

The Hampton Police Division announced the implementation of CrimeReports.com Thursday. Police said the website provides online crime mapping and analysis, giving residents the chance to view crimes within the City.

CrimeReports.com uses daily crime data from the Hampton Police Division, and allows people to see what is happening in their area.

“If you’re looking to purchase a home, you don’t have to call us anymore, you can go stratight to CrimeReports.com, look at the street, look at the crime trends. You can look for sex offenders because they’re also on the website. We get that information from the State Police Sex Offender Registry,” explained Sgt. Jason Price with the Hampton Police Division.

Residents can also sign up with CrimeReports to receive automatic updates via email.
