Guns drawn in separate road rage cases

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Portsmouth Police are investigating two incidents of road rage involving firearms that happened in a matter of hours.

Det. Misty Holley with the Portsmouth Police Department told WAVY.com the first occurred sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Interstate 264 at the Effingham Street off-ramp.

The victim told police a white SUV cut over in front of them and when they honked their horn, the suspect vehicle slowed down to let them pass. At that point, the victim said the driver of the SUV fired several shots at their vehicle.

The second incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. in the 900 block of Court Street. The victim told police he was trying to merge into traffic when the suspect wouldn’t let him in. The victim said he got out of his vehicle to confront the suspect, who pulled out a firearm and told the victim to get back.

Holley said both the victim and the suspect called police. The victim was told he could get a warrant for brandishing a firearm. No one was hurt.
