Man arrested after armed robbery

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – A man was arrested Wednesday in connection to an armed robbery in Hampton.

Sgt. Jason Price with the Hampton Police Division said officers were notified about a robbery that occurred in the first block of West Mercury Boulevard at 1:51 a.m. When officers arrived, the victim told police he was approached by the suspect, who brandished a knife and demanded money.

Price said the suspect took an undisclosed amount of money, a wallet and credit cards from the victim and fled in a silver Acura.

The victim was not hurt, and police said they did not know the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Police identified the suspect as 49-year-old Bi Chao Chen. He was arrested by Norfolk Police at his home in Norfolk.

Price said Chen will be transferred to the Hampton City Jail and charged with one count of robbery and one count of use of a knife in commission of a felony.
