HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – After the latest round of snow caused schools to close again, school systems are announcing how they’re planning to make up the missed instructional time.
Chesapeake will lengthen the school day by a few minutes each day. Officials say students will spend six more minutes in the classroom beginning March 17.
Gloucester schools will use April 21 as a fourth make-up day.
Makeup days will be April 21, June 12 and June 13. May 23 will also be a full day.
April 18 will be a full day instead of half days for students and staff.
June 12 and June 13 will be full instructional days instead of early dismissal days in combination with ‘banked’ instruction hours. Those are hours built into the regular school calendar.
April 3 and April 4 will be full days.
June 11, 12 and 13 will not be full instructional days instead of early dismissal days.
Virginia beach will add 20 minutes to each school day between March 31 and May 8. Additionally, the SOL testing window has been pushed back to begin May 19 to give students and teachers more time to prepare.
