Stolen car found submerged in NN

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Newport News Police are investigating a car in the water at Peterson’s Yacht Basin Thursday morning.

According to Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department, a call came in around 6:15 a.m. for a car in the water. This is in the area of 16th Street and Oak Avenue by the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel overlook.

When crews arrived on scene, they didn’t find anyone in the vehicle. McPherson said they were able to open the trunk once it was pulled from the water and nothing was found inside.

The vehicle was later confirmed stolen out of Virginia Beach.
