VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A well-known restaurant in Virginia Beach abruptly closed its doors, leaving many questions left unanswered.
WAVY.com heard from several people about The Jewish Mother in the Hilltop area closing for good with no notice.
“The rumors are in fact true,” the business posted on its Facebook page. “The Jewish Mother has closed its doors in Va. Beach.”
So what happens to all the shows scheduled to take place at The Jewish Mother? According to the calendar on its website, only nine days in March did not have something scheduled.
“We will be trying to save/relocate some of the previously scheduled shows.” You will be able to get a refund on any tickets purchased for upcoming events, but those tickets will not be honored at the new location for shows that are rescheduled and new tickets will have to be purchased.
Just days before the closing, the business was posting on social media about upcoming shows, including one that was supposed to take place Friday.
The Jewish Mother has not released any information as to why the Virginia Beach location closed. Just last year, in December, the Norfolk location closed and a post on its Facebook page said the Virginia Beach location wasn’t going anywhere.
“My son has been working for the Jewish Mother for 12 years now,” Cindy Clemm posted on WAVY’s Facebook page. “Started as a dishwasher and worked his way to chef…he showed up for work yesterday to chained doors! They could have given their employees a little heads up, at least!”
WAVY.com spoke with Williamsburg officials who confirmed a plan was approved for a new location of the Jewish Mother to be built in the city. The business is expected to open later this month.
