YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office took a 19-year-old into custody Tuesday evening, charging him in the homicide investigation of his mother.
Lt. Dennis Ivey with the sheriff’s office told WAVY.com a 911 call came in around 1:30 p.m. from a home in the 100 block of Ponsonby Drive. When deputies arrived, they found 40-year-old Heather Perkins dead in a bedroom. Ivey said she appeared to have been stabbed to death.
Perkins lived in the home with her 19-year-old son, Ronnie L. Dovbish, who was present when deputies arrived. He was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder, Ivey said.
Neighbors tell 10 On Your Side they were stunned to hear what happened at the Perkins home.
“It’s just shocking because we had no issues with those neighbors, none,” said Sonya, a nearby resident. “They were quiet. They did their own thing.”
10 On Your Side talked to one neighbor who did not want to go camera, but says he knows Perkins’ husband: “He is the most inviting person I have met. He introduced himself to me, and from that day forward he has always greeted me with a smile. He always showed general concern about me and my feelings.”
Dovbish is being held without bond at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
