VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach Public Works crews waited until a little after 8 a.m. to start pretreating roadways ahead of the storm.
Crews treated bridges, ramps and overpasses first and they’re expected to start treating primary roads around 2 p.m. Major areas include Shore Drive, Virginia Beach Boulevard, Great Neck Road and First Colonial Road.
Photojournalist Larry Carney took a ride with a plow truck driver and crews want to remind drivers to stay back from plow trucks and spreaders.
“We’re looking out for anything while we’re driving, making sure we’re not hitting anything,” Greg Jones with Virginia Beach Public Works said. “Safety is always number one.”
Public Works spokesman Drew Lankford told WAVY.com this storm could take more salt and sand than usual to treat the roads.
