85-year-old woman’s death investigated in Ahoskie

AHOSKIE, N.C. (WAVY) – North Carolina police are investigating the death of an 85-year-old woman Sunday.

According to a news release from Ahoskie Police, the department received a call from an alarm monitoring service around 1 a.m. at a house on Parker Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found 85-year-old Ruby Martin Baker inside her home. Baker was taken to Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police have not yet said how Baker died, but they called the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations for assistance. According to Noelle Talley with Attorney General Roy Cooper’s Office, the SBI is investigating Baker’s death as a potential burglary at her home.

A family member told WAVY News 10 they do not want to comment publicly at this time to protect the investigation.
