Man arrested in Hampton bank robbery

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A Crime Line tip led to the arrest of a Hampton bank robber Saturday morning.

Hampton Police arrested 52-year-old Fred Lee Lawson Saturday for robbing the Langley Federal Credit Union in the 1000 block of West Mercury Boulevard Thursday morning.

Police said Lawson went into the bank around 11:18 a.m. Thursday and passed a note to a teller that demanded money and implied he had a weapon.

There were customers inside the bank at the time of the robbery, but no one was injured.

Police charged Lawson with one count of bank robbery and one count of burglary. He is in the custody of the Hampton Sheriff’s Office, according to a press release from Hampton Police.
