PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a tanker about 10 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach Friday.

The captain of the 355-foot tanker the Asphalt Sailor radioed the Coast Guard around 5:30 p.m. to report one of the crewmembers was suffering from abdominal pain and needed medical help, according to a press release from the Coast Guard.

A 45-foot Coast Guard response boat from Little Creek met with the tanker about 10 miles from the coast of Fort Story around 6:50 p.m. The man was transferred from the tanker to the Coast Guard boat and then taken to Rudee Inlet, where a ambulance took him to Virginia Beach General Hospital where he is in stable condition.
