ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – A Carrsville man lost his life in a crash on an Isle of Wight County roadway early Friday morning.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said the crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. in the 14200 block of Route 258, also known as Courthouse Highway. A 1992 Nissan pickup truck traveling northbound crossed over the solid lines hitting a 2012 Kenworth tractor-trailer head-on.
The driver of the truck, Martin Johnson, 50, of Carrsville, was killed in the crash. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, Anaya said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to Riverside Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
WAVY News’ Deanna LeBlanc was told the tractor-trailer was carrying grease from the Smithfield packing plant. The truck did not lose any load.
Route 258, also known as Courthouse Highway, was closed in both directions between Scotts Factory Road and Bob White Road. The road reopened by 9 a.m.
A detour around the crash was Bob White Road, left onto Uzzell Church Road, then left onto Carroll Bridge Road and finally left onto Scott’s Factory Road to get back to Route 258. Reverse this if coming from the opposite direction.
