Downtown Norfolk customers experience power outages

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — More than 1,000 residents and businesses in Downtown Norfolk experienced power outages Friday night.

Around 7:30 p.m., residents started telling WAVY.com they were without power, and Norfolk dispatchers confirmed the outage affected the Downtown area. By 8:20 p.m., Dominion Virginia Power’s outage map reported 1,109 customers without power and said the estimated restoration time would be between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.bute street

Around the same time, Norfolk SCOPE personnel told WAVY.com they experienced what they described as a surge, where power went out and then returned quickly.

A little after 9:30, Dominion’s outage map reported 142 customers were still without power, and the cause was still under investigation. Sometime before 11 p.m., the map showed no power outages in the area.
