YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said a 25-year-old man was arrested Friday after an elderly man was attacked and robbed in his own home.

Investigators said Quinton Fields Jr. broke into an apartment in the 200 block of Barham Boulevard on Feb. 20 and attacked and robbed the elderly resident before running away.

Sheriff Danny Diggs talked to 10 On  Your Side about the case: “It is kind of shocking for someone who could have been my parent to be a victim of crime. So, this is something, no matter how old you are, especially when someone preys on the elderly, it really troubles you and I think we go that extra step.”

Fields is also known to go by the names “Q” and “Scoot,” and before his arrest, deputies said he was considered armed and dangerous.

“There was some contact made with him over the phone and through some other means, and arrangements were made for him to turn himself in to a deputy around noon today,” Diggs said.

Diggs said he thinks something caused Fields to target the victim, who is in his seventies and had to be hospitalized after the attack.

“The victim was talking to someone else and there was at least some overheard conversation or somebody else knew that he had a little bit of cash on him, and that’s probably what led to this,” Diggs said.

He said deputies have increased patrols in the victim’s neighborhood, and he did not think Fields attacked anyone else.

Fields is charged with robbery, burglary, and malicious wounding. He is being held without bond at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
