NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The driver in a deadly crash Friday night on I-64 has been identified.

Virginia State Police Sergeant Michelle Anaya said 50-year-old Charles Edward Turner, Jr., of Norfolk, died at the scene of the crash.

Anaya said Turner was driving a 2006 Chevy Impala at a high speed when he made a sudden lane change.  He struck a 2013 Honda Civic, lost control, hit an embankment and slid into a tree.

The driver of the Civic and two passengers were not injured.

The crash happened just after 10 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 near mile marker 282 and the Northampton Boulevard exit. The right lane was shut down for emergency vehicles.
