Officer injured in motorcycle crash

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Newport News police officer was involved in a motorcycle crash Thursday morning.

According to Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department, the crash occurred near Warwick Boulevard and Export Circle. The motorcycle officer was traveling northbound on Warwick Boulevard when a white Kia Sedona van traveling southbound turned left onto Export Circle.

The officer struck the vehicle in the rear passenger side.

McPherson told WAVY.com the officer was transported to a local hospital with a possible broken arm and other pain. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

Police closed the northbound lanes of Warwick Boulevard between Export Circle and Ridgeway Place for some time. The scene was cleared by 9 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
