PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Volunteers were lending helping hands in Portsmouth Saturday for an early spring spruce-up. Donors from the United Way painted and cleaned classrooms for students and employees at Children’s Harbor.
Saturday’s event is part of the African American Leadership Society under the United Way.
“Revamping and giving a re-energize at Children’s Harbor. By cleaning up the kitchen, taking care of the break room and doing light painting throughout the whole facility,” said Kevin Otey, Children’s Harbor CEO.
The group is focused on improving education in areas of high need. On top of their time spent working on Saturday, each volunteer donated a book so children can work on their reading skills at home.
