Portsmouth package prompts bomb squad response

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Chandler Harper Drive is back open at Ben Hogan Drive in Portsmouth after police investigated a report of a suspicious package.

The package was left on the front porch of a home in the 600 block of Chandler Harper Drive. The person who lives at the home found it there Wednesday morning and called police around 7:30 a.m.

Police spokesperson Misty Holley said the package was not dangerous, and contained ceramic dishes. Police said a friend dropped the package off, and did not notify the resident.

Portsmouth Police  requested assistance from the Virginia State Police bomb squad.

Chandler Harper Drive reopened to traffic around 11 a.m.
