Police seek suspect in theft from NN store

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Police are looking for a suspect who they say stole from a Newport News store employee, and tried to break open the cash register.

Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department said an unknown man went into the Family Dollar located at 6000 Jefferson Ave. around 7 p.m. Sunday. The suspect went into the employee-only stock room and stole money from an employee’s purse, according to police.

Eley said the suspect also went behind the register counter and tried to pry it open, and then left the store.

The suspect, seen in surveillance video, is described as a young black male, possibly in his twenties.
