MODESTO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a series of bizarre and false emergency calls led them to the discovery of a marijuana garden in a Northern California home.

Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves says 47-year-old Victor Jasinsky first called 911 at 3:42 a.m. Monday to report that a nearby house was on fire, then six hours later to say intruders were in his home.

Next, Jaskinsky’s neighbor called on his behalf to say two women were being held hostage in Jasinsky’s home. Then, Jasinsky called at 7:45 p.m., to report that a man had been shot. Authorities responded to every call.

The Modesto Bee reports that on the last call, officers searched Jasinsky’s home and found a marijuana garden inside.

He was arrested on suspicion of cultivating marijuana and filing false reports.

Officers believe Jasinsky was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
