Newport News Police investigate overnight shootings

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Two people were shot overnight in Newport News, according to police.

Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department said officers heard gunshots coming from to 32nd Street near Orcutt Avenue. Police located a 21-year-old man who had been shot in the abdomen near 25th Street and Chestnut Avenue.

Thurston said the victim told police he ran to the area after he was shot.

As officers were investigating the shooting, a 19-year-old man reported he had been shot in the arm.

Neither victim’s injuries were considered life-threatening, according to Thurston. The 21-year-old victim was treated and released from the hospital.

Police say they are continuing to investigate both shootings.
