Flea market catches on fire in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Firefighters were called to battle a fire at a building on Deep Creek Boulevard near Elliott Avenue early Tuesday morning.

They got that call around 5 a.m.

There was light smoke showing when firefighters arrived at the scene. They attacked the fire from the inside and quickly extinguished it.

According to Chief Jim Hoffler, the commercial structure is divided into several businesses. The fire was concentrated to the flea market section of the building. Attached businesses received smoke damage, Chief Hoffler said.

There is no word yet how the fire started. There was no one inside the building at the time of the fire.
